Before completing these questions I have course read deeply and paid close attention to the videos.
GREAT WAVE
In the video of the great wave it’s clear that the artist has love for Mount Fuji and the nature around him. It relates back to the reading we did on the great wave. And as a visual learner these videos help me and definitely add depth to the lesson.
EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY
In the video on early photography, it’s easy to see that the Daguerreotype made photography both affordable and accessible to all people from all walks of life, which I find beautiful. It also came out during the beginning of industrial production. The video relates back to the reading that we did on early photography, and it’s interesting to see the old fashion process of taking photographs.
DEATH OF MARAT
In the video on the death of Marat, it’s clear that Marat was naming him as a martyr, he was made to look like Jesus and it was a rebellious work by a rebellious cause. It relates back to the reading we did on David’s death, and it’s interesting to see the subject compared back to the statue of Pieta.
MANET
In the video on Manet, It’s discussed that the artist chose to paint wild scenes of people behind the mirrored lady, that he was very popular for woman’s direct quote unreadable gaze and his use of loose Brushstrokes. it relates back to the reading we did on becoming modern, and it’s nice to see other portraits by Manet to get a sense of his style.
DELACROIX
In this video we discuss the Delacroix painting, which personifies liberty itself as a woman leading the French rebellion over the barricade, it’s encourages forward movement and encapsulates all concepts of rebellion. This relates back to the reading we did on liberty leading the people, and having the details highlighted and discussed creates a sense of understanding in this moment.
MONET
In Monets painting, we see that poplar trees, which were close to his home were a subject he chose to represent. This suggests that the man was a proximity painter, and he paid attention to not subjects around his home, but also to loose details colors and light. It leads back to the reading we did on impressionism, and as a visual learner it is nice to see the style in an example and not just on text.
CASSAT
In the video and Cassatt we see an intimate moment painted beautifully between a mother and child. It relates back to realism, at least for me, which we discussed in the neoclassicism greeting. Watching a video of this painting highlights the depth of a soft but quick moment that’s easily forgettable as simply a chore, but made beautiful by rendering still.
